In healthy individuals, both eyes work in parallel and in harmony. The deterioration of this parallelism between the eyes due to various reasons is called strabismus. In squinted individuals, one eye looks straight while the other eye moves up, down, inward or outward. In more severe cases, both eyes may slip. Depending on the cause of strabismus, these shifts may be temporary or permanent.

What are the Symptoms of Strabismus?

  • Eye watering.
  • Head and eye pain.
  • Double vision.
  • Loss of three-dimensional vision.
  • Looking with the head and eye turned to one side.
  • Blurred vision.

How Is Strabismus Treated?

In the treatment, glasses, eye exercises, prismatic glasses, botox injections into the extraocular muscles or surgery are performed. It is very important to correct the refractive error with eyeglass treatment first in a child with a misaligned eye. Many slip types fall into the group called accommodative (correct with glasses) strabismus.
