With age, fine wrinkles and dark circles can appear around our eyes. If factors such as smoking, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, chronic allergies, and genetic predisposition are present, these signs can occur at an earlier age due to environmental factors like sun exposure and UV radiation, especially on the thin skin of the eyelids.
Mesotherapy is one of the methods used for rejuvenating the eye area, which involves the application of small, fine needles to the skin around the eyes in an aesthetic procedure.
What is Eye Area Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy procedures, in general, involve the use of very fine needles to administer medications to reduce or eliminate these changes occurring around the eye area.
Eye area mesotherapy can help reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles and dark circles. The solutions injected just below the skin in this procedure contain varying amounts of vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, certain minerals, and hyaluronic acid, depending on the content of the medications used.
Through mesotherapy treatments, collagen and elastin production in the skin increases, blood circulation improves, skin elasticity is enhanced, lymphatic circulation in the area is accelerated, and the appearance of edema is reduced. Eye area mesotherapy should be performed by an experienced doctor.
Who are Suitable Candidates for Eye Area Mesotherapy?
• Individuals aged 18 and above
• Not pregnant or breastfeeding
• No known allergies to the medication used
• No active infection in the area to be treated
How is Eye Area Mesotherapy Performed?
Before applying mesotherapy to the eye area, a local anesthetic cream is applied and left on for 15-20 minutes. At the end of this period, the area is cleansed with an antiseptic solution. The product to be used for mesotherapy is injected into the subcutaneous tissue through numerous points using very fine needles.
When coming for this procedure, it is important to have no makeup on the skin. Ideally, it is recommended to take a shower and wash the face before the procedure, as contact with water is not desired for about 24 hours after the procedure.
After the procedure, you may notice numerous small bumps on the skin around your eyes. These bumps and swelling may vary from person to person but generally decrease within the first 3 hours and completely disappear after 2 days.
Temporary bruising and itching sensation may occur at the needle entry points. This is completely temporary. Following your doctor’s recommendations, avoiding hot water and not touching the area for the first 24 hours will help accelerate your recovery. If you experience swelling in the treated area and it worsens, it is important to consult your doctor or the nearest healthcare facility, as some medications can cause allergic reactions in some individuals.
When approved, Class 3 certified products are used and the procedure is performed by a doctor, the risk of experiencing the mentioned complications is extremely low.
Eye area mesotherapy is typically performed every 2 weeks for 2-3 sessions. The duration of the effect varies depending on the individual and environmental factors but can last for up to 1 year. Repeated treatments can be performed after 1 year.
